There is a medium-sized, older white dog that we've spotted around the exit of 63rd Avenue from Cheverly, directly on the other side of 202, that has been running in that neighborhood area. I knocked on several doors trying to locate the owner and left notes, but to no avail. On Saturday, I tried to get close, but it lazily trotted away from me. I couldn't spend time going after it as I was on my way out of town that morning. He was spotted in the same area this morning, approaching people that got off of the bus.
It looks like this dog has a harness and possibly a collar with tags on it, but I haven't had time or the ability to get close enough to see. If any other animal loving folks in town are able to, maybe someone could go look around that area to see if the dog belongs to someone or if anybody knows about it. I'd hate to see it roaming loose with no help but unfortunately, at this time, myself and the other people associated with Cheverly Animal Issues, who work to help stray animals in town, just do not have the time or ability that we'd like to, or have had in the past. Any help from our fellow caring neighbors would be greatly appreciated!

Do you recognize this cat?
This kitty has been hanging around Parkway and Kilmer Streets for the past week or so. It seems to either be lost or have been dumped. It's friendly and seems to really want to be an indoor cat. Do you recognize it? If so, please either contact us or have the owner contact us asap as we don't want to see such a friendly kitty having to live on the streets any longer.
In the meantime, while we're looking for the owner, if you are interested in possibly fostering this kitty, please let us know. Contact us via the Contact Us button, leaving a comment or via cheverlycarneys@gmail.com. You'd be doing a great thing!

Another lost cocker spaniel!
Via another Cheverly resident, this morning:
I saw a wandering cocker spaniel (I think -- I'm lousy with dog breeds) near the Kilmer/Lake curve. The dog was quite dirty around the belly and legs -- it looked like it had been loose for a while. It was wearing a red collar. Though the dog came toward me, it repeatedly shied away when I tried to check for tags.
Twenty minutes ago, the dog was heading down the Lake hill from Kilmer. I hope it is home safe soon (if not by now).

Loose dog on 63rd Avenue
This dog has been caught and is with a neighbor. If this is your dog please call 240-381-5512.
Hi friends,
Just saw a loose dog on 63rd Ave, between Laurel and Inwood; he's friendly and curioius - wiggled away from me and ran on his way. Had tags; bone-shaped tag said "Sarge" I think. Looks like lab mix, golden with some gray on his muzzle.

via another Cheverly resident:
A black and white sheltie named Lucy broke her leash and took off around noon from the corner of Kilmer and Belleview. Her owner is out driving looking for her but if you see or find her - she does have tags - try to entice her to a safe place and let her owner know.
If you've seen this dog, please leave a comment or let us know via the Contact Us button to the right of the screen.

Cocker spaniel lost again! Have you seen him?

Rubio got away from his owner again and has been missing since Sunday, the 25th. He was last seen at his home near the Walmart on 450. The last time he went missing, he was found in Cheverly, on Landover road. He could possibly be anywhere in between, if not in a different direction all together.
He's a small cocker spaniel, about 25-30 lbs, light brown in color. If you have seen this dog or one that looks similar, please call 301-386-3570 as soon as possible. Also, you're welcome to leave a comment or contact us via the "contact us" button on the right-hand side of the page.

Interested in adopting a special kitty?

Sent to us from a volunteer w/the Montgomery County Animal Shelter:
A three-legged female kitty with medium length, black and white hair was found near Good Hope Road in Silver Spring. She was taken to the shelter on 7/19. Are you interested in giving her a forever home? If so, for more information, call the shelter at 240-773-5960 and ask about CHEVY - ID#A342392.
Her record is at this link and the photo can be viewed via this flickr page. (If the first link isn't accessible, check the Flickr link below for final outcome - I'll add it within a few days.)
Please watch for lost posters, and pass this information along to your neighbors. The number and web address for the shelter are below. I really can't believe someone isn't looking for this cat!
