If you lost a dog, please let us know so we can post a picture here.
-Notify your friends and neighbors that you lost a dog, and post pictures of the dog on any town listserves to which you have access.
-Place a lost report with the shelter by calling 301-780-7200.
-Ask the Town of Cheverly to put a picture of the dog on their website. Contact them at 301-773-8360 or here.
-Make a lost dog flier--ask us for samples! Try to hang 500-1,000 fliers (in plastic page protectors) within the first 48 hours after your dog is lost.
-Place a Craig's List ad for the dog.
-Set up a feeding station that you refill daily at the point where you last saw your dog. Set up stations at each subsequent sighting location, too.
-Check area shelters and contact area rescue groups.
-Set up a feeding station in your yard, and the point at which you last saw the dog.
-Ask for help. Ask your friends, neighbors, and family to help you search and hang fliers. We can help spread the word and offer other suggestions and recommendations.
-Consult a pet tracker--ask us for references!
-Start a Facebook group so you can recruit volunteers to help you!
-Set up a blog to centralize your search effort.
-Update followers on Twitter.
-Contact area schools, businesses, and place of worship and ask them to post your flier.
-Start raising funds to cover your costs--use either ChipIn or FirstGiving as an easy on-line way to raise money.
-Do not give up--spread the word in any way you can and wait for sightings of the dog.

-Take the dog to be scanned for a microchip--most vets will do this for free, but call first to make sure.
-Keep the dog for as long as you can prior to taking the dog to a shelter.
-Ask for help. We have crates that we can lend you, along with other supplies, if it will allow you to hold onto the dog for longer while you try to locate the owner.
-If you can no longer keep the dog and no owner has emerged, work with us to try and place the dog into rescue.
